Carla Zampatti designs Post’s new retail collection

Thursday October 18, 2007

Australia Post is making a fashion statement this spring with today’s launch of its new wardrobe for retail staff.

The new retail collection designed by Carla Zampatti is for the 8,000 retail staff working in over 4,000 Australia Post outlets nationally.

Carla Zampatti was invited to design the new collection by Australia Post’s Managing Director, Graeme John, who recognised that her signature style had the look and feel Australia Post needed.

Over the past 12 months Australia Post has launched a number of initiatives aimed at bringing people up to date with the modern, progressive business it is today.  These have included the launch of a new brand advertising campaign ‘Part of everyday’ and investment in a more contemporary look and feel in its retail outlets.  In keeping with these activities, the business needed a new wardrobe for its retail staff.

“The new clothing collection reflects the changing focus of Post’s retail offering”, Mr John said.

“We needed to ensure that our retail collection reflected our staff’s professionalism in dealing with an ever increasing number of high end business transactions.”

Australia Post’s new wardrobe is designed in a colour palette of navy, red and white.  The collection includes tailored suits in classic navy or pinstripes.  Shirts feature bold red striping or navy spots on white.  Bold accents are created with spotted or striped ties for men and neck scarves for women.  There is also a range of knitwear combining sophisticated navy and sand tones.

The final collection of 80 pieces was developed in close consultation with retail staff.

The design brief specified that the collection cater for a variety of different climates and work situations.  Fabrics needed to be functional and long-lasting, and most importantly the collection needed to be fashionable and adaptable.

According to Carla Zampatti, “When I design for people in business I consider the sense of empowerment that comes from a well cut garment in the best quality fabrics.  My intention in creating the collection for Australia Post was to design clothes the wearer enjoys wearing and feels comfortable in, and that suits the job they need to perform.”

The collection was introduced to staff and licensees in September, and their feedback has been extremely positive.

Australia Post recognised Carla Zampatti as an Australian Legend in 2005 when she featured on the official Australia Day stamp series with five other leading Australian fashion designers.
